Rooted is an ecumenical, intergenerational catalog of spiritual wellness resources that have been sourced by and for Black womxn. We are living and serving in the midst of quite an interesting time. On one hand, we are in the throes of the “dual pandemic” of the Coronavirus and the continuation of state-sanctioned antiBlack violence. On the other, perhaps amidst these disparaging rumblings, the worlds for which we have prayed are now emerging. Either way, may of us are tired and our communities are still suffering more than anyone else. This catalog is a gift to Black women, and it contains a wealth of books, music, recipes, videos, poems, quotes, etc. that will help to keep you spiritually full, grounded and inspired.
This catalog is called, "Rooted: A Spiritual Wellness Catalog by and for Black Women." I landed on this title as a way of conveying that our spiritual wellness and intimacy with one another and with the Spirit, are, indeed, means of becoming, and remaining, rooted in the time of upheaval. The contributors, and their contributions, to this work reflect Black womens' varieties of lived experiences, vocational positions, religious/spiritual affiliations and embodied identities. They are theologians, teachers, healers, creatives, friends, and vessels of Spirit. They have submitted some of their most sacred and valued resources for spiritual wellness and vitality. They were prompted with the following questions: What keeps you full? Inspired? What brings you to the center? What energizes you to do your soul's work and to show up for the people whom you love? What opens your heart and gets your body moving? What reminds you of your hope? What holds and anchors you?
This archive is also a record for our archives. When we get through this season, Rooted will bear witness to our lives and the things that sustained our connections to one another and to the Spirit.
